This one’s a golden oldie, folks. To get things started off on the right foot here at the brand new AGITAINMENT.COMICS, I’m re-presenting the very first comic story I ever had published. Don’t expect a lot of talking in this one, just some good clean action. So grab yourself a frosty cold beverage, sit back, and enjoy an encore performance of THE GRYPHON!
A lot of people ask me, “Rick, just what is an ‘Agitainment’, anyway?” Well, I’ll tell you. Agitainment is part entertainment, part agitation. It’s revelry that shakes things up, that breaks a few rules, that does more than simply give a few moments’ diversion (though I hope it does that, too). In short, it’s entertainment that moves you. …READ MORE »

Re-presenting the second installment of my very first published comic story, THE GRYPHON. Things start to heat up as the villain finally makes his appearance (I mean, c’mon, it’s page 2 already!). For the unconventional style of the art, I was heavily influenced by the engravings of Gustave Dore. See the figure in the back of the panel four if you don’t believe me.
You can read past installments of the current story by using the “First” or “Previous” arrows in the sidebar beside the main comic or in the “This Week’s Comic!” box above. You can then navigate forward and backward through the story using the “Next” and “Previous” buttons that will appear in either location. …READ MORE »
As I mentioned in a previous installment, THE GRYPHON was my very first published comic story, from waaaaaay back, when I was still in art school. I was studying with comics legend Frank Stack (creator of the very first underground comic, The Adventures of Jesus, and the artist for Harvey Pekar and Joyce Brabner’s Our Cancer Year, 1995 Harvey Award for best original graphic novel). A lucky few got to see The Gryphon in its original presentation in Class Comics #1. But if you missed it then, have no fear. It will all be presented here!

Continuing the saga of THE GRYPHON. Those oh-so-symbolic raindrops you see in panel two mark the very first time I experimented with depictions of weather in comics. Weather, to my mind, is the single most underutilized element in comics. It’s used everywhere in movies to express mood and enhance drama (Don’t believe me? Take a look at just about any scene in BLADERUNNER). Just not in comics. Well I guarantee you one thing, folks, if you keep reading AGITAINMENT.COMICS you’ll see it used here and used well.
Beware of the bugs! Agitainment.Comics is a brand new site and we’re still working out all the kinks, so please bear with us if we still have a few issues to resolve. …READ MORE »
